My love of animals began early when we brought home baby chicks to my mother’s apartment in New York City. We soon added terrariums for worms, habitats for butterflies and, of course, a collection in the summer of fireflies and stray cats. We also fed squirrels on the fire escape. All that in a small New York City apartment.
After retiring from more than 30 years in higher education, I fell in love with Aiken in February 1999. I bought an historic home, and moved here in August of 2000 with my two dogs Moose and Clancy and my husband, David Andrews. This accepting community is a great place to get involved. I volunteered for an SPCA event, met the wonderful people on the Board, and was asked to become a member.
As a Board member, I have served as a past Vice President, member of the Personnel Committee, and member of the Events Committee. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Board members over the years. I especially appreciate Board President Barbara Nelson’s vision and leadership, which have led to our building a new facility. And we couldn’t do it without SPCA Executive Director, Gary Willoughby.
I’m pictured here with Moose, Clancy, and our newest addition, Moxie.
