Malia Koelker

I was raised here in Aiken and only after college and several years living and working elsewhere did I realize the exceptional quality of life that Aiken offers. I returned home in 1987 to open my restaurant and subsequently became aware of the problems of animal overpopulation and abuse in Aiken.

I served on the SPCA board of directors for four years in the 1990s. At that time I learned how completely rewarding it is to share my home with shelter animals. All of my animal companions are SPCA graduates and we have greatly enriched each other’s lives. I feel an obligation to all animals less fortunate than mine.

I am pleased to attempt to help the SPCA bring us a state of the art facility and improve animal welfare. Aiken is too fine a community to have a problem left unsolved.
